PROGRAM MESSAGES
****************
1. "Abort: Program code is corrupted (CRC error)"
----------------------------------------------
The program failed its internal cyclical redundancy check, indicating
that the code is corrupted.
2. "Abort: Needs 286+ or compatible processor"
-------------------------------------------
286+ versions of the program cannot be executed in 8088, 8086, or most
80186 based machines.
3. "Abort: Needs 386+ or compatible processor"
--------------------------------------------
386+ versions of the program cannot be executed in 8088, 8086, 80186,
or 80286 based machines.
4. "Abort: Needs 486+ or compatible processor"
--------------------------------------------
486+ versions of the program cannot be executed in 8088, 8086, 80186,
80286, or 80386 based machines.
5. "Abort: Needs MS-compatible DOS 3 or higher"
--------------------------------------------
The program requires a DOS version equal to or greater than MS-DOS 3
(or compatible operating system) for proper execution.
6. "Abort: Unable to identify video adapter type"
----------------------------------------------
The program was unable to determine the type of video adapter in use.
7. "Error: Failed to detect a CMOS Real Time Clock"
"Do you want to cancel? [Yn] "
-----------------------------------------------
The program was unable to determine the presence of a CMOS or RTC chip
(which are needed for program operation). Press <Y>, <Enter> or <Esc>
cancel the execution, or <N> to continue.
8. "Error: Failed to get country data [DOS code ??h]"
"Using USA country data for time and date formats"
--------------------------------------------------
An error was encountered when DOS was requested to provide information
on the date and time formats for the current DOS country data.
9. "Installed at absolute address ????0h"
"Enter <DAC /?> for Help/Status"
--------------------------------------
dAC was successfully executed and the resident was installed at the
(hexadecimal) address ????:0000.
10. "Resident updated"
"Enter <DAC /?> for Status"
---------------------------
The relevant resident parameters of dAC were successfuly updated.
11. "Resident quiescent"
--------------------
The resident has become temporarily inactive until the next execution
of the program without switch /QU (except for switch /?).
12. "Error: DOS environment unchanged [code ?]"
-------------------------------------------
The program was unable to create/update the requested DOS environment
string. Three error codes are possible:
1: Not enough room in the global environment block.
2: Null terminator for environment block not found.
3: Null size environment block.
Error 1 may be due to a small DOS environment (see file DOS_ENV.TXT).
Errors 2 and 3 indicate corruption of the environment block.
13. "Error: Invalid switch ?? in command(s) ????????"
-------------------------------------------------
An invalid switch parameter (??) was passed to dAC.
14. "Error: /HKxn 1st parameter must be A-Z or 0-9"
-----------------------------------------------
An invalid character was entered as the first parameter of the new
hotkey. Use any character between <A> to <Z> or <0> to <9>.
15. "Error: /HKxn 2nd parameter must be 4 through 15"
-------------------------------------------------
An invalid character was entered as the second parameter of the new
hotkey. Use a number between 4 and 15 to specify the corresponding
<Right shift>, <Left shift>, <Alt>, and <Ctrl> combination.
16. "Resident uninstalled"
----------------------
The resident was successfuly deallocated from memory.
17. "Resident not yet installed"
----------------------------
Uninstalling was requested when the program is not yet installed.
18. "Cannot uninstall: Interrupt ??h still in use"
----------------------------------------------
The indicated interrupt vector has been changed since its interception
during the installation; if more than one interrupt vector has changed,
only the first one is shown.
19. "Error: Memory block not released [DOS code ??h]"
-------------------------------------------------
DOS did not free the memory memory block allocated to the resident at
the time of its installation. One of two error codes may be expected:
7 - Memory blocks above the DOS area trashed.
9 - Invalid block request.
These errors indicate a corruption of the memory control chain of the
operating system. Reboot processor as soon as possible.
20. "Error: Compatible XMS manager not detected"
--------------------------------------------
Presence of a driver implementing the Extended Memory Specification
(XMS) version 2.0+ could not be determined, and the requested upper
memory load (LH) defaulted to a normal low-memory installation.
21. "Error: Unable to allocate UMB [XMS code ??h]"
----------------------------------------------
The XMM did not allocate the requested UMB. One of the following
XMS error codes may be expected:
80h - Function is not implemented.
8Eh - General driver error occurred.
8Fh - Unrecoverable driver error occurred.
B0h - Smaller UMB is available.
B1h - No UMBs are available.
B2h - UMB segment number is invalid.
22. "Error: Unable to allocate UMB [DOS code ??h]"
----------------------------------------------
MS-DOS 5+ did not allocate the requested UMB. One of the following
error codes may be expected:
7 - Memory blocks above the DOS area trashed.
8 - Not enough memory.
Error 7 indicates a corruption of the memory control chain of the
operating system (reboot processor as soon as possible). Error 8
indicates that no UMBs are available. Install the program in low
memory.
23. "Error: UMA linkage not restored [DOS code ??h]"
------------------------------------------------
MS-DOS 5+ did not restore its original linkage status with the upper
memory area. Although this is not a fatal error, it may be better to
reboot the system when convenient.
24. "NON-RECOVERABLE DOS MEMORY ERROR! [code ??h]"
"Reboot machine as soon as possible..."
----------------------------------------------
MS-DOS 5+ did not restore its default memory allocation strategy
after the program modified it for UMB allocation. The error code
may be 01h (invalid function). Reboot the processor immediately.
25. "Error: Memory block not released [XMS code ??h]"
------------------------------------------------
The XMM did not free the allocated UMB. (See above for XMS error
codes 8Eh, 8Fh, and B2h.)
26. "Error: UMB release failure [DOS error ??h]"
--------------------------------------------
MS-DOS 5 did not free the allocated UMB. (See above for DOS error
codes 07h and 09h.)
27. "Unable to allocate UMB above minimum address"
----------------------------------------------
A free upper-memory block was not available above the lower upper-
memory address specified by switch LHn. Resident was installed at
a lower UMB whose value is displayed in the installation message.
28. "Either midnight or more than 1 hour elapsed"
"Timing data are invalid - Execution aborted"
---------------------------------------------
Too much time elapsed during the time measurement provided by switch
/SW or midnight was reached during the measurement.
29. "Error: Program loading failed [DOS code ??h]"
----------------------------------------------
dAC was unable to successfuly load the program to be timed.
30. "Error: Only a .COM or .EXE file can be loaded"
"For a batch file or internal DOS commands use"
"SW:[path]COMMAND.COM /C [NAME.BAT or command]"
-----------------------------------------------
A non-executable file was selected for execution time measurements.
31. "Not enough memory to restore screen contents"
"Only ???? bytes are available..."
"Continue? [Yn] "
----------------------------------------------
If switch /VA?, /HK?, or /? were selected, the dAC program attempts to
allocate an additional 4766 bytes to preserve data if the mouse driver
is inactive or not loaded, or 6816 bytes if it is active. The message
is displayed if sufficent memory is not available (other functions can
still be executed). Pressing <Y> or <Enter> proceeds with the display,
<N> or <Esc> cancels the execution.
32. "Unable to restore Mouse state: Driver reset"
---------------------------------------------
Upon ending of a Help/Status display, a sanity check of the original
mouse driver state saved by the program indicated such data had been
corrupted. A mouse reset request is passed to the driver.
